The Zimbabwe Music Rights Association (ZIMURA) has announced the removal of Gift Amuli, Joseph Garakara and Dereck Mpofu from organisation’s board. This comes after the trio hosted a press conference laying out gross violations of corporate governance within the organisation earlier this week.
In its statement, ZIMURA described this action as a grave breache of fiduciary duty and conduct prejudicial to the interests of the association, calling the press conference unsanctioned.
“This action was taken without board approval and in direct violation of established corporate communication protocols. During said proceedings, the trio issued unsubstantiated and defamatory statements made without evidence, due process, or any formal legal conviction, thereby bringing the Council and the Association into serious disrepute,” read part of the statement.
The trio are said to have not followed the necessary procedures and the statement described them as seeking “public sensationalism over the organization’s internal dispute resolution mechanisms.”
In closing ZIMURA reaffirmed its commitment to the highest standards of transparency and accountability, adding that it will not allow the institution to be compromised by individual agendas.
ZIMURA has been in the spotlight this year over allegations of mismanagement.
