Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) board has suspended the assumption of duty for Dr. Moris Mpofu as Acting Commissioner General of the Authority two days after appointment, with social media users breathing fire over past allegations of abuse of office.
Mpofu left the Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company (ZCDC) chief executive officer role amid criminal abuse of office allegations in 2019.
Allegations were that the former ZCDC CEO recommended an ex-convict diamond dealer RAobal Hussein to trade in precious minerals with the Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe (MMCZ).
The state, however, withdrew the allegations charges against Mpofu before plea after it failed to gather evidence that warranted his prosecution.
Social media users had displayed displeasure in the appointment of Mpofu after corruption allegations.
Ironically, Mpofu is already a ZIMRA board member.
Rameck Masaire has been re-stated to continue serving as the Acting Commissioner-General at ZIMRA
