Zimbabwean poetry is set to journey to the moon as part of The Polaris Trilogy: Poems for the moon. The historic anthology has Zimbabwean poet Ndaba Jamela Sibanda named as one of the contributors. The Polaris Trilogy is part of thousands of musicals, paintings and other forms of art heading to space in three launches began this year.
The anthology was compiled as a gift to the Moon by its three editors: Joyce Brinkman, Dr. Joe Heithaus, and Jessica Reed. It is going to be available to those who visit the Moon for millions of years to come. It will arrive on a NASA flight and become part of the Lunar Codex at the Moon’s South Pole.
The book has three distinct sections present poetry from every continent on Earth in the native languages of Earth’s poets. Each section’s poems are inspired by that section’s set of three words that reflect the Earth’s history and habitats while they reveal elemens of Earth’s culture and life forms.
The Space X powered flight bound for the moon will have the poetry anthology and over 6 700 works of contemporary creative artists from around the world attached to the rocket’s lander, which will remain on the moon to become a museum.
Sibanda who is an internationally acclaimed recently released a poetry collection titled Wealth Dissipated Like Morning Dew. The anthology focuses on themes relating to the African diaspora, while addressing the negative impacts of climate change in Africa. The book takes Sibanda’s solo published books to 29, while he has contributed to more many more published collections.
He is a member of local poetry initiative Gourd of Consciousness Poetry, and has multiple award nominations to his name.
