Now in it’s 8th year, Global Shorts is a Los Angeles-based international awards competition that recognizes and promotes short films with a runtime of 55 minutes or less.
Past competition winners have gone on to win or been nominated for: BAFTAs, British Independent Film Awards, Cannes Film Festival Awards, Emmys, Genie Awards, Golden Globes, Saturn Awards.
Zimbabwean born filmmaker, Kudzai King, first made a name for himself in photography, working for creative directing brands such as Helmut Lang, Theory, and landing covers on Vogue Germany and Elle Ukraine among others.
“Despite it all, I’m always reminded, I’m just an African boy with a dream. Setting aside a hard heartbreaking start and not knowing a single soul in America, not family nor friends as an immigrant, I’ve held on to these adolescent dreams and seen them through one way or the other.” – Kudzai King
A few years into King’s career, he ventured into directing and screenwriting, cutting his teeth as a first assistant director/second-unit director on “Cook Off,” Zimbabwe’s first film acquired by Netflix which inspired a chain of events and hence “The Hitman’s Dalliance”, his first directorial and writing debut.
