Zimbabwe is taking advantage of the 2018 Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) World Cup to market itself as the country airs an advert during the matches that have a reach to over  3.2 billion people around the world, or 46.4 percent of the global population according to statistics.
Minister of Tourism and Hospitality, Prisca Mupfumira on a side interview during a strategic planning workshop yesterday said marketing is a key aspect in tourism and that is why the Ministry is trying to make itself more visible.

“Now with the onset of social media and so forth, we need to be present,” Mupfumira said. “like if you have been following football I am not a football fan, but I was very delighted that we as the Ministry through ZTA (Zimbabwe Tourism Authority) have an advert on football, world football and I think it is very good for us”
“People are seeing us throughout the world that Zimbabwe is there, that it is open for business and with these natural resources, beautiful people, it’s coming out and will be increasing our visibility locally and internationally.”

Tourism Minister also said marketing is important for Zimbabwe because if people do not know about a good product, the product is as good as dead.

“So in all what we are doing in particular in tourism, marketing is a  key aspect, and that’s why we are trying to make ourselves more visible coming up with strategies for domestic tourism, for international tourism,” the Minister said.
“… and getting being present, digital marketing is one of those things which we really need to address so that we are visible internationally.”

An advert showing Zimbabwe’s tourist attraction centres appeared on a multi-choice channel Super Sports last Saturday that has a reach of over 12 million people.
Besides use of adverts, the tourism Ministry is also using world soccer legends to market the country.
The world soccer legends will play with Zimbabwe’s warriors in a match that is slated for 1500 hrs today.
