Wenera, a popular Zimbabwean television show which screens on ZBC TV on Mondays and Tuesdays has been pulled of air. The management of the show shared this via a Facebook post on their page today. They claim that ZBC should meets its obligations and pay arrears owed to the television show.
According to the post the Wenera cast and crew has been failing to sustain themselves because of this and the producers feel like they were taking the heat for what ZBC was doing wrong. This comes as the national broadcaster is calling for more content submissions as it wraps up the digitalisation exercise.
It’s sad that local producers are now failing to flight their content because their will not receive their royalties. At a time when film industry is trying to find its footing, this a major setback. The failure by our national broadcaster to flight desirable programmes and not being able to attract content has led to a lot of viewers migrating to using the DSTV cable TV service. The producers have also joined the exodus with the like of Arthur C Evans Show and others migrating to Zambezi Magic and other channels.
