His story is bitter-sweet but Ngonidzashe Mavera does not want you to feel sorry for him. Instead he wants people to join him praise and spread the Gospel – through Rap!, This gentleman was formerly DatKiddPro whose two singles Hatikoko Ikoko and Kumusha are on high rotation on most major radio stations. Now better known as Prophecy he is dropping his debut album Mask Off on the 5th of November 2016 in Harare.

Prophecy ZimbabweThis is a highly anticipated album, mainly because of the time it has taken Prophecy to put it together which is over 3 years. However his introductory single Hatikoko Ikoko tore all sectors of the music sector. Prophecy wants to spread the Word through a medium that people can relate to.

Prophecy has every right to brag about how God has blessed him because the biggest blessing this guy received was not material. Having struggled with Lymphatic Cancer from 2002 to 2007, he fought the battle and won. Nothing short of a miracle right? This led to him founding We Can Beat Cancer Zimbabwe which focuses on helping young people who are diagnosed with Cancer.

“I do not do Christian rap because I’m a great rapper, I’m doing Christian rap because I feel that’s what God has called me to do…and I know that if I was doing secular Hip Hop I would have made as much noise but that’s not my calling. My calling is to minister the Gospel of Jesus through the gift he gave me.”

It is best to know that he is not confined Rap only, he is versatile and does not want to be placed in a box. Describing himself as a musician who is not confined to any particular sound, who would do anything as long as it’s Scripture based and inspired by the Gospel of Jesus. The collaborations in Prophecy’s album show off his versatility although he is quite rooted in his Christian background.

Expect the talents of one of Zimbabwe’s biggest choral groups, Zimpraise with Mathias Mhere on a track called Shingirira. Prophecy also got Soulja Love to praise the Lord on a track titled Ndochemeyi which promises to be a chart hit as the chibaba does not disappoint on collaborations. Ruyonga from Uganda who was featured on Proverb’s Red Tape also lends his lyrical prowess on a track titled After Party. This mixed bag of collaborators gives this album a wholesome feel as there is a track that every Zimbabwean can relate to. Now what we call creativity!

Prophecy also authored a book which chronicles his struggle with Cancer for 5 years which he will drop soon. The album will be launched at the 7 Arts Theatre in Belgravia, Harare featuring a lot of guest performers most of which are his fellow collaborators.
