Grain Millers’ Association of Zimbabwe (GMAZ) chairman, Tafadzwa Musarara, who was in Canada has said told the journalists in Harare that Zimbabwe has no choice but to import wheat from Canada and German.
GMAZ chairman who had gone to North America with some delegates to get wheat as stocks are running out in the country.
“We need Canadian wheat,” Musarara said. “It is the best to make some bread quality good for consumers.”
“We also want to state that the baking equipment that we have in this country is designed around those wheat varieties”
Musarara went on to reveal that the shipment of wheat from Canada will arrive around 15 September.
“However in the interim we have come up with other interventions, we have got to more ships coming in in June and July from German.”
“So the country remains food secure we have enough stocks and we don’t anticipate any food shortages.”
“Those who want to do panel buying they are free to go ahead but there is no need to because the products will be available,” GMAZ chairman went on.
Two weeks ago the GMAZ chairman revealed to the journalists that Zimbabwe is sitting on a 90 days wheat supply.
“We have no choice but to import from Canada and German,” Musarara said today. “It’s compulsory and we have to do that.”
