The Apex Council has today, in a press briefing, notified their position as having no tangible results from the government. This follows after the stop of the collective industrial action.
The body representing civil servants in Zimbabwe gave a 14 days notice to the government of collective industrial action. Salaries remained stagnant for government workers while basic commodities are on the increase in the country.

“As the Apex council having met the government severally with no tangible results, we are advising government today that that notice that we sent to government on the 8th of January 2019 expires in the next 48 hours,” Secretary of the Apex Council, Davis Dzatsunga said.
“Having met today to interrogate the $300 million offer, that the government presented to us at the last NJC meeting under the 22.7 caution from the government as well, the Apex Council contains that a problem of incapacitation is yet to be addressed as the offer from the government fall short, by in our calculation $1 219 RTGS/ Bond from the lowest paid workers.” sic

The Apex Council’ notification comes at a time when Zimbabwe is still recovering from the doctor’s strike which started last year.
Not only that, Zimbabwe is recovering from the recent turmoil that led to the shutdown of the internet.
Consequently, President Emmerson Mnangagwa had to cut short his leave due to the industrial action by the government workers.
A group of teachers led by the Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) has also gone on industrial action this year over the issue of salaries.
Workers are threatening to strike against the government as inflation of basic goods went up to 31.01% from 20.85% in December last year.

“Apex Council will not be liable for whatever happens thereafter,” Dzatsunga said referring to what could happen after the expiry of the notice of the industrial action.
