Updates Of The Just Ended Bi-National Commission Between Botswana and Zimbabwe

President Emmerson Mnangagwa and a delegation of nine ministers went to Botswana for the second Bi-National Commission (BNC) which took place from 27-28 February 2020.
The first Bi-National Commission took place in February last year with the Botswana President  Mokgweetsi Masisi visiting Zimbabwe.
Both President Mnangagwa and Masisi Co-Chaired the BNC.
A joint communique from Zimbabwe and Botswana leaders of the two Southern African countries exchanged views on a wide range of regional, continental and international issues of mutual interest and concern.
The two countries signed seven bi-lateral instruments which include Agreement on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters; MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) on Health Matters; MoU on the Provision of Sustainable, Affordable and Functional Low-Cost Housing; and MOU on Cooperation in the field of Media, Information and Publicity. Other MoUs signed include on Sport Development; Employment and Labour; and on Cooperation in Technical, Vocational Education and Training.
A business forum was held on 27 February 2020 on the margins of the BNC focusing on sectors which include manufacturing, textiles, clothing and services (finance and insurance).
They were also discussions towards the speedy conclusion of regional projects such as the Ponta Techobanine Heavy Haul Railway Line, which is a vital trade corridor envisaged to contribute towards greater regional integration.
The two countries also discussed on wildlife conservation where they noted joint efforts from the neighbours expected to facilitate the contribution of the Wildlife Estate towards sustainable economic and ecological benefits for the local communities, and Africa as a whole.
The Zimbabwean leader invited Masisi to the Third Session of the BNC to be held in Zimbabwe in February 2021.
