Uncle Waffles recently announced the upcoming release of her second album of the year, An Asylum of Solace. The project is the second part of her double sided project which was kicked off by the release Asylum earlier in the year. The upcoming album is a “curated musical version of Uncle Waffles’ journey”.
According to the artist it has feelings that can only be shared through music, as she comes into almost 2 years since her life completely changed. Although Asylum overall had a mixed reaction, the lead single Yahyuppiah had astronomical success that saw it being certified 4 times platinum in South Africa. A success only shadowed by the lead single Tanzania from her debut project (Red Dragon) which is certified platinum 7 times.
The first part of this project, Asylum was a representation of of the chaos in my mind trying to grasp, learn and run within this. How I’d feel like I was drowning some days but had to soldier on , the reality of going head first into such a beautiful industry. The reality of the feelings that would make me feel like I was in an asylum, now we have part 2. Solace.
Uncle Waffles describes solace as a representation of the grace that has followed her and given her so much peace and happiness. A mirror into how beautiful her journey continues to be, and the blessings within this journey. It represents an unexplainable feeling of gratitude. Using a few samples, she says it shows how she’s been musically inspired over the years, and how it can all still tie in together.
The album will be released on the 11th of August, and the announcement comes just after Uncle Waffles revealed she’ll be having her first headline show in New York City.
