The Association of Music Promoters in Zimbabwe has issued a statement addressing artists failing to honour performance contracts. The organisation strongly condemned this behaviour and called upon performers to uphold the highest standards of professionalism.

“We, the Association of Music Promoters Zimbabwe, wish to express our deepest disappointment and concern regarding recent incidents where certain artists have failed, without apology, regret or remorse, to honour their commitments by not appearing at events after receiving part or full payment as agreed upon. Such actions are not only unprofessional but also undermine the trust and integrity that our industry depends upon,” read part of their statement.

“Promoters invest significant time, resources, and effort to organise events that showcase talent and provide entertainment to audiences. When artists do not fulfill their contractual obligations, it caused financial loses, damages reputations, and disappoints fans who look forward to the these performances.”

Chipaz Promotions, one of Zimbabwe’s biggest events organisations, endorsed the statement, stating that they believed in the talent of artists and wanted to see them succeed, yet they had been let down by those who failed to honour agreements.

“We pay for performances, expecting you to deliver. Let’s keep it professional and respect each other’s efforts. Make it right while you can,” read a post by the events organisation.

The National Arts Council of Zimbabwe also chimed into the conversation, adding that showing up for booked shows wasn’t just a courtesy, but a contractual agreement.

“While creativity fuels our industry, reliability sustains it. Last minute cancellations and no-shows damage reputations, disappoint fans, and hurt the ecosystem that supports artists,” read part of the statement by NACZ.

Last year names like Silent Killer, Madedido, Nutty O, Freeman HKD, SaintFloew and Baba Harare were among the names that failed to honour performances, with international acts such as Young Stunna and Uncool MC also not showing up.
