Zimbabwean actor Tendaiishe Chitima recently broke new ground in her acting career, with her international film debut on the Hollywood production G20.

The actor plays the role of Agent Lane on the American thriller now streaming globally on Amazon Prime. In an interview with My Afrika Magazine, Chitima described the experience as life changing and an opportunity she never imagined possible.

“Working on a Hollywood production was life changing! It expanded my thinking on what it means to be a professional actor. Being on a production with almost unlimited resources meant that we could fully recreate the fictional world and immerse ourselves in it – and that does something wonderful to the psyche of an actor,” shared Chitima.

“As a Zimbabwean actor, what seemed so far away, came all the way to my doorstep and showed me that it was possible for me too, here on the continent.”

With her role, Chitima joins a growing list of Zimbabwean actors making their name on the global stage. These include the likes of Danai Gurira, Tongayi Chirisa, Sibongile Mlambo, Daniel Lasker and Chipo Chung.

Directed by Patricia Riggen and written by Caitlin Parrish, Erica Weiss, and Logan and Noah Miller, G20 stars Viola Davis as a president who must use her military skills to fight off terrorists who have taken over a G20 conference venue. The film features Anthony Anderson, Marsai Martin, Ramón Rodríguez, Douglas Hodge, Elizabeth Marvel, Sabrina Impacciatore, Clark Gregg, and Antony Starr.

Tendaiishe Chitima has a Bachelor of Arts in Film, Media & Writing and Drama from the University of Cape Town. She starred in ‘Cook Off‘, Zimbabwe’s first film to make it onto Netflix’s streaming platforms and she has featured in multiple Zimbabwean productions, such as ‘Gonarezhou‘ and ‘Just Say Hello‘.
