Multi award winning photographer, Tamary Kudita, will be showcasing her ‘Threads of Heritage’ exhibition, for the first time in Zimbabwe, at Harare’s Loft3 Gallery. This is the photographer’s first local exhibition since 2021.

‘Threads of Heritage’ is made up of over 20 pieces from Kudita’s collection, all united by the common theme of togetherness.

The exhibition presents the photographer’s work as a whole, from the very first image she created to her most recent pieces. The showcase gives viewers a full sense of the evolution of Kudita’s work from its inception.

“The title, ‘Threads of Heritage,’ is inspired by the threads that unite us in this instance: the fabric worn by my models, which is layered and embedded with meaning,” shared Kudita in an interview with Kuda Rice.

“Our identities are also interwoven, speaking to our cultural heritage as illustrated by landscapes, significant cultural objects, language, people, and traditions, which in turn inform the creative process.”

The exhibition will be running from 28 June to 3 July, at Loft3 Gallery (Hunter’s Moon Estate), with viewing times being 9 am to 5 pm during the week and 9 am to 3 pm on the weekends.

Tamary Kudita’s work explores themes of cultural duality, African identity, and trans generational memory. She aims to portray a new literature which takes on the cultural remaking of the self, contributing to new imaginings of African identities.

Kudita is the first African to win the coveted title of the 2021 Open Photographer of The Year from the Sony World Photography Awards. In 2024 she received the Appreciation Award Best Contributions to Photography, at the Xposure International Photography Awards and in 2025 she received the Theatre and Art Award at the Forty Under Forty Global Awards in Dubai.

The photographer’s previous solo exhibitions have taken place at The Xposure International photography awards, Sharjah UAE (2024), Visu Gallery, Miami (2024), The Betsy – Art Basel/ Art Week Miami Beach, Florida (2021-2022) and PH Centre Gallery Cape town, South Africa (2018).

‘Threads of Heritage’ has been showcased at the Visu Gallery in Miami, and is currently resident at the Cincinnati Museum of Art until 2026.
