Highly sought after producer-cum-rapper/singer, Simba Tagz has successfully signed a publishing deal with Universal Music Group Africa through they subsidiary Universal Music Publishing Group. Tagz is still trying to push his latest offering Natural Selection, which he dropped in November last year. It seems the #MonthOfLove has started well for Mr Tagz who will also be part of Tehn Diamond’s Tehn Outta Ten Tour.
Tagz who is clearly excited for this new development also hinted on the fact that there is a possibility that he could be signed by UMG. “I actually met with some of the people from Universal Music and they want to obviously hear the stuff first. There is a chance that they can sign me as well, I think I’d prefer as a producer. There is a chance, a high chance,” he told #ENTHUSE. This might be a breakout deal for the producer who has put in a lot of work including a collaboration with Ice Prince which surprisingly had a lukewarm reception.
The publishing deal will ensure that Simba Tagz receives his royalties from airplays and it gives him an opportunity to get his music on commercials and TV shows. Simba joins the ranks of Coldplay, Adele, and Justin Bieber who all have publishing deals with UMPG. There is a huge chance that a international collaborations EP that Tags hinted on when we last talked to him might be distributed by UMPG.
Following hotly on his heels is another producer/singer Charlie Kay of the hit single Vimbai, who just signed a distribution deal with Africori. It’s good that local artists are getting their music distributed by foreign entities who have the capacity to tap into markets that our local firms cannot. 2017 seems to a good year for the music industry, let’s eat back and watch
