US based actress Sibongile Mlambo is finding firm footing in filmmaking with her first fully produced film The Silence in Freedom.
The short film recently made the selection of the Beverly Hills Film Festival, bringing it’s selections to 6 on the festival circuit. These include the Berlin Women Cinema Festival, Cannes Independent Shorts, Chicago Indie Film Awards, LA Indies, and San Diego Independent Cinema Awards.
According to its synopsis The Silence in Freedom is about a woman’s struggles with complicated emotions after her abusive husband dies. The film is a collaborative project between Sibongile Mlambo and Aylya Marzolf, with the latter having written and directed the film.
Both accomplished actresses in their own right, Mlambo and Marzolf felt a pull to tell their own stories, and shine light in new directions on meaningful topics.
Between the two of them they have dealt with various challenges, that include homelessness, becoming a single mother, being an immigrant, being a black woman in America, being queer, being mixed race, and surviving abusive relationships.
Sibongile Mlambo is known for starring in Netflix’s Lost in Space, the Starz historical adventure tv series Black Sails, the MTV television series Teen Wolf, the Freeform tv series Siren and in the films Honey 3 and The Last Face. She was recently added to the cast of Power Book III: Raising Kanan.
