Zimbabwe’s longest running urban culture festival, Shoko Festival, has released it’s debut compilation, Mashoko Tapes Vol.1. A project that celebrates the festival’s most recent edition and the artists that shared the stage at it.
The 10 track project is centred on collaboration and embraces the theme of Shoko 2024: Both Sides of Samora.
The collaborations on the album were first performed on Shoko Mash Up Night back in September, with the tracks having been recorded in the build up to the festival. Although hip hop has the most representation by artists, Mashoko Tapes Vol.1 is a blend of genres that has relatable storytelling at it’s core.
Artists featured on the project include Dough Major, Dingo Duke, Rutendo Jackie, Bhekiwe, RayKaz, and Lalla Martin, with interludes from Morset and Dennis Shoko. Curated by Zuu, the album has production from Jairos Hambahamba, Zviro Beast, Corny 3D Keys, and Daystar Mellow.
Mashoko Tapes Vol.1 is now available for streaming on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube and all other major streaming platform.
