It had been a long time since Sha Sha had graced a stage in Zimbabwe and well since her career fully blossomed in South Africa and she was honored with the title “Queen of Amapiano” she had yet to give the home fans a performance. This past weekend Kamo Mphela and Sha Sha were in Harare for the Any Given Weekend concert powered by Khaya Defero. Hosted at the outskirts of the city on Danai Farm, the concert was greeted with some initial trepidation.
The show came at a time when people were still fresh with the disappointment of the Major League Djz concert that never happened because of lockdown restrictions. However, this time people were not disappointed. The rain tried to dampen proceedings but the tents provided and the people’s resolve overcame that. From the food stalls to the sitting arrangements, stage, and overall venue setup, Khaya Defero had this perfectly made.
When Kamo Mphela & Sha Sha finally took to stage respectively it was the catalyst to a perfect storm. Kamo Mphela brought the energy she carries in every single video and it was all that and more. It was the perfect balance of motion and vocal delivery. Kamo didn’t miss a beat or even break a sweat. She was in synch with her background dancers all the way and what a performance she delivered.
Sha Sha came out to a crowd already at the peak of euphoria and although it wasn’t the best of Sha Sha it was well worth it. Kamo Mphela would then join Sha Sha on stage for an exclusive performance of their single together and what could be better than that. Yet although the stars completed the night, it was an event that belonged to everyone. From the MCs to the DJs, Any Given Weekend gave the people a taste of something good and as typical, they’ll be wanting more.
