Several Zimbabwean Films make the Official Selection for the 2023 Bantu Film Festival in Botswana

Four Zimbabwean productions are going to be on showcase at the upcoming Bantu Film Festival in Botswana. Revealed in the official selection for the festival were the short films “Animals”, and “3 Days in March”, along with the feature films “Cavern”, and “Death and Other Complications”. The films will on showcase from the 18th to the 21st of October in Gaborone.

Animals is a short film directed by Welensky Kaseke. It won Best Narrative at the European Film Festival Zimbabwe and it was showcased at Zambia’s Sotambe International Festival. The film was co-written by Welensky Kaseke, Leo Ericks and Fadzai Gwenhe.

Three Days in March is the product of Inhouse Media, directed by Kuda Bwititi the relatable film is set on the backdrop of the Corona virus pandemic. The film was written by Admire Kanhenga.

Cavern tells the story of a group of illegal gold miners, who venture into a long abandoned mine in search of the biggest haul of gold rumoured to exist. It is directed by Tafadzwa Ranganai under the film production company Creative Hub Films.

Death and Other Complications is a dark comedy lead by Admire Kuzhangaira, popularly known as Bhutisi. He plays John, a spoilt young man who does not care about anyone else but himself. The story revolves around the shenanigans of this particular individual, he decides to bring a girl over but things take a nasty turn when she dies in his bedroom. The film made under Mirazvo Productions is written by Bernard Sande.

Held annually, the Bantu Film Festival is aimed at changing the climate of the film and television industry in Botswana by providing a platform that nurture growth, collaborations, innovation and creativity amongst locals and the corporate entities through knowledge sharing, film screenings and networking means. The Pan African film festival seeks to create a platform for filmmakers, foster a culture of collaboration and open up the Botswana film industry to the world.
