Mature Artist, Option Dzikamayi Nyahunzvi will stage his first Solo Exhibition at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe in Harare, this February. Titled Zvatiri, the exhibition is set to be a cultural showcase depicting who we are.

“We really do not think much about the mundane things that make us, such as our reference to totems or clapping our hands as we greet,” said Nyahunzvi.

“These are values that have stood the test of time, they survived colonialism even, and I want to caption our kinesics through painting,” the artist concluded.

Zvatiri will illuminate upon how the cordial nature of our better forebears has conditioned us to Unhu, and how it serves as a compass towards the fulfilment of good. His work draws parallels, from how the lotus position in esotericism of the East has always served as the resting position here, and how our kinesics are heavily conditioned towards a sense of welcome as opposed to aggression.

“As one of the solo fulfilments on our schedule this year, we felt that Nyahunzvi’s work, which is rooted in investigation of identity, would be a great showcase,” said the exhibition’s Curator, F. Zvikomborero Mandangu.

“I think Zvatiri will serve as a post-millennial rallying cry for spiritual patriotism,” he went on.

Zvatiri opens to the public on the 13th of February 2026, with a Curatorial Walkabout, Conversation and Artist Talk set to take place throughout the run of the show.
