SCREENWRITER Nkosilesisa Kwanele Ncube has penned her debut book “Drafts: 100 Letters I Will Never Send”, a collection of one hundred letters addressed to different people, things, situations and entities.
The collection, which documents the writer’s saddest, funniest and most intimate moments, is set to be launched on the 24th of December at Bulawayo Theatre during Intwasa Festival.
In a statement to the press, Ncube, a first-time author, said the book was divided into six categories as follows.
“Family: Letters to different family members, documenting how I feel about them and our respective relationships. My favourite out of these has to be “To Dad, Now That I Think About It”.
Friends: Addressed to the friends that I have made throughout the course of my life. These range from the friends I don’t speak to anymore, friends who are now married etc.
Boys: Definitely my favourite part of the book. These are letters to all the boys I have known: loved, loathed, wasn’t sure about. Possibly the most personal part of the book.
People: These are to people that I have known who are not friends or family but have played an important role in my life. Here, the letters are addressed to teachers, mentors, my favourite TV characters, Catcallers etc
God: My relationship with God has always been complex. In this category, I talk to God.
A million little things: Here I write to the little things that affect me every day. Among these are letters to my first period, to Covid 19, to the jeans I no longer fit into.”
“Drafts: 100 Letters I Will Never Send” will be available digitally on Amazon while hard copies will be sold at selected bookstores in the country.
