Harare, Zimbabwe – Nhaka ‘Delta’ Gallery, one of Zimbabwe’s most enduring and influential art institutions, is set to commence its 50th Anniversary Celebration, with an exhibition titled, Roots and Relevance, taking place on 31 October 2025 at the gallery’s premises.

Since its establishment in 1975, the gallery has been a vital space for nurturing artistic talent. Over the decades, the gallery has played a pivotal role in shaping Zimbabwe’s artistic landscape and continues to champion the role of art in society through exhibitions, education, and community engagement.

Nhaka Gallery has stood as a beacon of creativity, supporting generations of artists locally and internationally. For half a century, Nhaka Gallery also known as Delta Gallery has been at the forefront of nurturing artists, preserving cultural heritage, and fostering dialogue through the visual arts.

This milestone exhibition celebrates that remarkable journey by reflecting on the foundations (“Roots”) that shaped the gallery while also exploring the ongoing significance (“Relevance”) of contemporary art in today’s world.

“Roots and Relevance” will bring together a diverse body of work from both established and emerging artists, showcasing painting, sculpture, photography, installation, and performance.

The exhibition highlights the gallery’s legacy as a home for creative expression while pointing toward a dynamic future where Zimbabwean and African art continues to inspire globally. This exhibition is both a tribute and a provocation. It is about honouring the artists, communities, and visionaries who built this institution while reaffirming art’s relevance as a mirror of society, a tool for change, and a bridge across generations.

The anniversary celebration will feature:

• A curated retrospective of landmark works from the gallery’s history

• New commissions by contemporary artists engaging with the theme

• Artist talks, panel discussions, and community programs

• Performances and cultural showcases

Nhaka Gallery is inviting the public, artists, collectors, cultural leaders, and international guests to join in this historic celebration of art, heritage, and vision.
