National Arts Council of Zimbabwe announces inaugural short film grant winners

The National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) has unveiled the recipients of its highly competitive 2025 Short Film Grant, awarding funding to the top three film makers: Jonathan Samukange’s “Outcast’, Bridget Paradza’s ‘Homecoming’, and Tatenda Hove’s ‘Kukomba’. The winning filmmakers each received $2,000 USD 

“Since our founding 40 years ago, the NACZ has championed strategic interventions across the creative and cultural industries in Zimbabwe. The Short Film Grant, launched by our Board Chair in November 2024, aligns squarely with the Zimbabwe Film Strategy 2025–2030. By actively investing in storytellers, we strive to translate the NACZ’s strategic vision into real-world impact,” stated Napoleon Nyanhi, NACZ Chief Executive Officer, at the ceremony announcing grant winners.

The short film grant is a follow up to the Zimbabwe Film Strategy which was launched on the 20th of November 2024. During the launch, the NACZ Board Chair, Dr Nozipo J Maraire announced the Short film grant, which was funded by the Lotteries and Gaming Board.

Dr Eugenia Chidhakwa, chairperson of the Lotteries & Gaming Board, expressed her commitment to supporting filmmakers, asserting a commitment to increasing support from the current $6,250 (USD) grant funding.
