Zimbabwean multidisciplinary artist and renowned mbira player, Nasibo, is going to be representing the country at this year’s “Visa For Music Festival”. The musician was selected from over 1,500 candidates from across more than 80 countries. Nasibo will be sharing the stage with around 30 other acts from across the world, with Africa and the Middle-East dominanting the lineup.
This year the Visa For Music Festival will be celebrating it’s 10th edition. The four day event will be running from 22 to 25 November in Rabat, Morocco. Visa For Music’s mission is to discover new music talents and give them a platform that showcases them. They aim to expose artists to international cultural professionals so as to foster partnerships.
In it’s 10 years of existence, the festival has hosted 332 concerts, and 2,052 artists representing 99 countries. 45 of them being in Africa. The proceeds of this year’s event are going to be donated to the earthquake relief fund.
Nasibo is a multidisciplinary contemporary musician renowned for her ability on the Mbira. She seamlessly blends her soulful vocals with the Mbira creating an enchanting and soul-stirring experience for her audiences. Creatively infusing various vocal techniques such as Shona yodeling, and scatting, among African music styles Nasibo has a unique sound that is both soothing yet uplifting to the listener’s soul.
Nasibo has shared the stage with some of the biggest names in African music, such as Youssou Ndou, Habib Koite, and Oliver Mutukudzi. While her list of collaborators features the likes of Jah Prayzah, Edith WeUtonga and Music According to Percussion, where she served as a backing vocalist.
The world has taken notice of Nasibo’s exceptional talent which has seen her perform at the European Union-African Union 6th Presidential Summit, the Bozar in Brussels, Belgium, and the Maisha Music Experiment in Ethiopia, a cultural musical experiment arranged by the EU delegation to African Union. She has also graced the stage at countless festivals across Zimbabwe.
