Munya Chawawa returns to the big screen, on the new 2023 film, Rye Lane. A romantic comedy directed by Raine Allen-Miller in her feature directorial debut. It was adopted from a screenplay by Nathan Bryon and Tom Melia. The film is set in the South London areas of Peckham and Brixton, the film is titled after the real-life Rye Lane.
Munya Chawawa plays the role of a restaurant crooner. The comedian announced his latest role via Instagram, telling fans to go and witness his “15 seconds of greatness”. Chawawa was also the hold of the film’s premiere, alongside a few of his co-stars and the film’s director.
Rye Lane had its world premiere at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival and its UK premiere on 8 March 2023 at Peckhamplex. Distributed by Searchlight Pictures, it will have a theatrical release in the UK on 17 March 2023 followed by a 31 March digital release on Star (Disney+) and Hulu.
Last year Munya Chawawa played the role of Chronozon on The Sandman, a DC Comics TV series.
