Molly Dzangare wins the classical category at the Unisa International Voice Competition

Zimbabwean opera singer, Molly Dzangare, was named the winner of the Classical Category last night at the 7th edition of the Unisa International Voice Competition. The soprano singer “demonstrated remarkable technical excellence, artistic maturity, and expressive depth,” which earned her the prestigious honour.

“My heartfelt thanks to the UNISA Music Foundation for this incredible opportunity, my wonderful teacher Jane Thaney, Prof. Silver, my mom, my family, my closest friends, whom I truly consider family and everyone who has supported me along this journey. I have felt and seen so much love, and I am incredibly grateful,” shared the singer in a post on Facebook.

“This win means more than I can put into words. It is encouragement, affirmation, and motivation to keep going. I carry this moment with a full heart and renewed purpose. All glory to God, onward with faith and gratitude.”

Organised by the Unisa Music Foundation, the Unisa International Voice Competition stands as one of the most prestigious vocal platforms on the African continent, celebrating excellence and shaping the future of vocal performance.

Born and raised in Chitungwiza, Molly Dzangare is the daughter of Zimbabwean musician, Israel Dzangare; the founder of Chitungwiza Harmony Singers. Discovered by an opera teacher in 2013, the singer has performed in multiple operettas both in Zimbabwe and South Africa.

Currently pursuing postgraduate studies at the Opera School at the University of Cape Town, she is the recipient of the Eva Kleinitz Opera Europa Scholarship, David Aldred Memorial Prize for Sopranos and in 2024 was nominated for a Fleur Du Cup Theatre Award.
