Tomorrow night, young DJ Made Her Believe (MHB) is set to hit the stage at the “Carpe Diem” event, alongside the incredible Thakzin, Kelvin Momo and the legendary Kabza De Small. It’s a big deal for him, especially after years of DJing locally and raising his monthly DJ movement, Untamed from zero to an unmissable gig for his fans. MHB shared his excitement, saying,
“Being on the same lineup as Kabza is actually ridiculous!” he remarked. Last year, he was in the crowd, and people kept telling him he should play at this event. “I always thought, ‘When it’s my time, it will come.’ And now, here I am!”
In the growing fandom of Electronic Music and Deep House, last year MHB played alongside Prince Kaybee on 2024’s New Year’s Eve. Just at the beginning of the month, MHB shared the stage with MÖRDA at Queen of Hearts. This was hot off the heels of his trip from India.
Having just graduated, MHB has been balancing his club circuit DJ career and now also a new ice business.
“The club scene is helping me a lot,” he said, noting his busy schedule from Thursday to Sunday. “I just want Zim DJs to be taken seriously,” he emphasized.
Collaborating with artists like Simba Tagz and Reverb 7, he’s excited to blend Afro house with piano and showcase Zimbabwean talent.
As he gears up for Carpe Diem tomorrow, MHB is driven by passion and ready to leave his mark. It’s all about making connections and building a legacy, one beat at a time.
What’s encouraging for the culture about tomorrow’s Carpe Diem is the lineup of rising local stars. It’s dope to see. TAPIWA, who doubles as a producer, has been making his mark on the party circuit, from Hinde to Afrotopia’s Daytime Groove. Also notable is Jay whose rise has been in Deep House fraternity, lighting up the Emagumeni and Roots stages both this and last year.
It’s refreshing to see more local talent featured this year, especially as electronic music, house, and amapiano continue to grow in popularity. With Carpe Diem being a sister event to the Jacaranda Festival, hosted in October, it’s clear that the scene is evolving to offer the locals more chances to showcase.
