True to HipHop’s sampling nature, the latest crop of rising stars are borrowing from our musical past. A few weeks after ProGIsTheName released the star studded collaboration “Neria”, inspired by Oliver Mtukudzi’s famous soundtrack, Leo Magozz has released his take on the classic love song “Furuwa Furuwa”.
This is Furuwa’s second remake in as many years, after Jah Prayzah released his remake as a single last year. “Furuwa Furuwa” was originally performed by Tairos Tendaupenyu & the Rising Power band. It is regarded as one of Zimbabwe’s greatest classics.
Leo Magozz’ take on the song takes inspiration from the current sub genres dominating Zimhiphop. The track has a vibrant drill beat that is infused with sounds of jazz. From the captivating shona words of Tairos Tendaupenyu, Leo Magozz sings in lingo representative of the language of today’s youth.
She’s no longer for the streets
She’s no longer for the streets
She’s no longer for the streets
She’s no longer for the streets
Muchato wedu uchadadisa (furuwa)
Ndicharoora handidi kukupatisa (furuwa)
Muchato wedu uchadadisa (furuwa)
Ndicharoora handidi kukupatisa (furuwa)
Furuwa furuwa, furuwa furuwa
Furuwa is a song about a love interest that one is hoping to marry and it just fits together seamlessly. Leo Magozz’ delivery and vocal talent compliment a good instrumental and give this song decent replay value. It was mixed and mastered by Slim Macekoh, with visuals directed by Dir Slimmy with Dir Teekay shooting it.
The video features Yahya Goodvibes as Leo’s love interest and Mwendaz weDrip is also on it.
