Veteran South African actress, Connie Chiume, has passed on. The news was announced in a statement by the actress’ family via Instagram. The short message read:
The Chiume family regrets to inform you of the passing of internationally acclaimed award winning actress, Connie Chiume.
Connie Chiume 72, passed on at Garden City Hospital today on the 6th of August 2024. The family asks for privacy during this period. The family will communicate further details.
Connie Temweka Gabisile Chiume (5 June 1952 – 6 August 2024) had an career stretching more than 4 decades in tv and film. The actress was widely known for her film roles in Black Panther, Black Is King and Blessers. On television, she had beloved roles in Zone 14, Rhythm City, and Gomora.
The actress received three Lifetime Achievement Awards. The first honour was at the 16th South African Film and Television Awards (Saftas) in 2022, then at the 2022 Hollywood and African Prestigious Awards in the US and at the 16th Royal Soapie Awards in 2023.
