Taurai Tinofirei popularly known as Seletine, that guy who always cools the tempers on Zim Hip Hop podcast, Keep It Real Fridays which he co-hosts with Brian Willis aka Cashbid, found time for us this week. Here is a guy who holds a Bachelor’s degree in Management and Entrepreneurial Development Studies and is  following his passion. Media! We got down to talk and he answered five burning questions we had.

  1. What’s the inspiration behind Keep It Real Fridays (KIRF) and do you think that its changing the game?

Firstly, I would like to shout out Onai and Nkosana for the concept..There are numerous inspirations to the show but our greatest mandate is to address some of the discrepancies in Zim Hip hop; the politics, the shenanigans, content (this one has got us into hot soup a couple of times 😅) and also try to find solutions.

Keep it Real Fridays is definitely a game changer;   we are giving upcoming and artists a platform to share their arts, promoting events and just driving necessary and entertaining conversations every week with artists, media peeps and other stakeholders of Zim Hip Hop. We haven’t made the impact we want yet but certainly getting there lord willing.

  1. What drew you to the arts industry because your qualifications tell a different story?

Well…I beg to differ a little bit because there’s definitely a link between entrepreneurial studies and the art industry where  you constantly have to come up with new ideas or innovate and try and make a living out of it.

I love interacting with creatives and also being a part new creations; whether it’s Music, visuals, events or coming up with cool concepts for branding campaigns. This is also the driving force behind my moniker ‘Social Architect’

  1. List you top 5 Zim Hip Hop Rappers.

Seletine: Not in any  ascending order…. Tulk Munny, Cal_Vin, Tehn, Sharky and R.Peels. Peels is still on the come up but I feel I need to add him ‘Pama monya ipapo‘!

  1. If you were given a chance to delete a Zim Hip Hop track out of existence entirely which one would it be?

This is a tough one… I would probably delete every song about flexing with Lambos and all sorts of synthetic stuff they’re not about. So yeah, songs about nothing.

  1. What’s the future like for you?

Bright and promising, Kirk. God is great…I’ve recently been expanding my brand into doing events management, concept designs for artists, music mixes and a bit of Dj’ing. Had a great opportunity to be featured on the Expensive Breakfast show with Glen Lewis and Nina Hastie on Touch HD for my debut music mix #HonourableSoul. Forever grateful for that.

Seletine’s #HonourableSoul mix is available on our Soundcloud as the official #FriYayMix
