JUST IN: Lockdown Level Has Been Relaxed to Level 2

President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has addressed the nation on the Covid-19 measures, particularly lockdown conditions. This comes as both infections and deaths have dropped since the highs of June 2021.

In the last two weeks, Zimbabwe recorded a reduction in daily average infections from 366 to 152. The country also recorded a reduction in daily average deaths from 20 to 10. Therefore the relaxation from level 4 to level 2-President announces.

As per his address, level 2 will involve:

  1. A Curfew beginning at 2200 hours and ending at 0530 hours
  2. Ordinary business enterprise to operate between 0800 hours and 1900 hours
  3. Restaurants and bars within hotels and lodges to open between 0800 hours and 2200 hours
  4. Bottle stores may sell liquor to customers for consumption off the premises between 1000 hours and 1600 hours
  5. Beer halls and nightclubs to remain closed during the lockdown period
  6. Public gatherings to be limited to not more than one hundred (100) people with observance of public health measures of wearing masks, sanitizing, social distancing, and temperature checks, and people are encouraged to be vaccinated
  7. Decongestion of offices shall be at 50% of ordinary capacity
  8. Intercity transport is permitted with observance of public health measures
  9. Low-risk sporting activities shall operate from 0800 hours to 1600 hours while observing public health measures as previously described in the lockdown measures.
  10. Medium to high-risk sporting activities shall obtain approval beforehand
  11. Persons entering Zimbabwe from neighbouring and other countries must go under a Covid-19 PCR test not more than 48 hours from the time of their departure for Zimbabwe.

This lockdown regime will be reviewed in two weeks.
