A cholera outbreak in the country has led to the cancellation of the International Day of Peace celebrations dubbed the Kites for Peace Zimbabwe.
The organisers made the announcement on their official Facebook page.
It is with great sadness that the KITES FOR PEACE ZIMBABWE EVENT IS CANCELLED.
Since our last statement we have had our police clearance for the event revoked in light of the cholera outbreak. It is disappointing but the responsible thing to do and we fully respect the authorities decision to do so. We definitely would not want to put anyone at risk, even though we worked hard to put all precautions in place for a safe event. At this stage we are unsure if it is possible to reschedule the event, please bear with us on this(please IGNORE new date on this event page). Kites for Peace Zimbabwe and the Zimbabwe Cares Network thanks you for your enthusiasm and support. Our work continues, now even more so in the current situation.
We are sorry to disappoint you and especially the children that were so looking forward to Sunday. We are disappointed too, but there is a gift and a lesson in this. We must always seek our inner peace in every situation in order to get through it. Continue to seek joy and peace, and to be grateful for the love and caring compassion that we receive without asking for it. We may not have an event but our message of Peace and compassion remains!
Stay safe everyone! Love and peace to you all
This year’s celebrations were set to happen on Sunday the 16th of September at the Stephen Margolis Resort.
