Zimbabwe’s Premier Soccer League (PSL) Disciplinary Committee has banned a Herentials FC official from participating in any football-related activities following allegations of match-fixing.
PSL charged Oliver Chirenga for attempting to influence the outcomes of a Castle Lager PSL match between Herentials FC and Black Rhinos FC which was played at the National Sports Stadium on 19 October 2020.
“Oliver Chirenga was fined the sum of RTGS $20 000. In addition, he is banned from any football-related activities for a period of 10 years from 1th of January 2020,” PSL’s Communications and Media Liason Officer, Kudzai Bare says.
“During his period of banishment, the accused shall not be allowed to watch local football or be near any football stadium in Zimbabwe. The fine of RTGS $20 000 is to be played by the 31st of January 2020.”
Besides Chirenga, former Black Rhinos team manager Gift Kamuriwo also received his fair share by being banished from football for 2 years.
Kamuriwo had already been fired from Black Rhinos FC after the revelation of the match-fixing scandal.
“Kamuriwo has been banned from participating in any football-related activity for a period of three years as from the 1st of January 2020,” Bare says.
“One year of the period is suspended on condition that the accused pays a fine of RTGS $10 000.”
“The fine of RTGS $10 000 together with the costs of the hearing is to be paid by 31 January 2020.”
Chirenga allegedly paid-off Kamuriwo and Black Rhinos players some money on the match that witnessed Herentials win 3-0.
One of the targeted players is said to have blown the whistle of the pay off to the Black Rhinos coach Herbert Maruwa.
Herentials FC was fined RTGS $300 000 following the scandal.
