Government on High Security Alert

The Government of Zimbabwe is putting security personnel on high alert with fears of protests as the prices of goods and services continue going up hurting ordinary citizens.
At a press conference in Harare yesterday, Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Cain Mathema said the Government will ensure that law and order prevails in the country.

“My Ministry has since directed the Commissioner General of Police to put adequete security measures in place to deal with anyone who engages in any form of violence and disturbances,” Mathema said.
“The police will thwart any civil disobedience of violent machinations by individuals, political parties and civic organisations under the guise of freedom of expression and other hidden activities.”

The Minister also said the security sector have gathered intelligency to the effect that a group of foreign national have arranged a workshop with civic organisations in Zimbabwe.

“The main agenda of the workshop is to mobilise and capacitate civic organisations and individuals to stage purported effective demonstrations and disturbances to overthrow the ZANU-PF Government,” Mathema said.
“My Ministry is also aware that they are plans to intensify violent demonstrations in the country after the forth coming MDC Alliance Congress under the guise, that there is economic collapse in Zimbabwe.”
“Recent protests conducted in the country resulted in rampant criminal activities which will not be tolerated. Members of the public are accordingly advised to ignore any incitement to violence and participating in unsanctioned gatherings that may cause instability in the country,” Mathema added on.

Zimbabwe is currently facing economic challenges which are witnessed prices, including data going up.
The country is also faced with challenges in accessing fuel as long queues appear at filling stations.
