A long time in coming, Gemma Griffiths is finally set to release her debut album this year. The 16-track self titled project is set to drop in May, and Gemma has kicked off the build up to that moment with the release of the single “Mhaka.”

Produced by Oskid, the contemporary dancehall track is an unapologetic anthem of resilience, success and transformation. It is resonant with themes of growth and empowerment, relatable subject matter for everyone who’s made to other side of their struggles.

“After being in the industry for quite some time, I needed to put out a body of work that was unapologetically me and Mhaka was my first inspiration. I know where my dreams are — and they are so big. This song is my journey, confronting the things that shaped me and celebrating the strength I am mustering to move forward.” – Gemma Griffiths

“Mhaka” was released with crisp visuals directed by Emil Zendera, that seem to be a product of Gemma Griffiths’ love for Harare. It features well-known spots in the city such as Greenwood Park and Donnybrook Racecourse. In an interview with NewsDay, the singer shared that she hopes people will get to see a different side to her, through her latest release and the forthcoming album.
