H-Town is about to celebrate the richness and diversity of the French language with this year’s Francophone Week, running from March 8 to 23. This annual event, which highlights the French language and Francophone cultures around the world, offers a platform for exchange and intercultural dialogue for culture lovers.

Organized by the Alliance Française de Harare in partnership with 8 embassies (France, Belgium, Switzerland, Canada, Romania, Rwanda, Democratic Republic of Congo and Egypt), the Francophone week promises a series of exciting activities celebrating the linguistic and cultural diversity of the French-speaking world. The festivities include conference, film screenings, exhibition, live music, workshops, activities for schools and even some gastronomy.

Through this program, the organizers aim to highlight the essential role played by the French language in bringing people and cultures closer together, thus promoting mutual understanding and respect for differences.

“La Francophonie is a melting pot of cultural and linguistic diversity, and the Francophone Week is the ideal opportunity to celebrate this richness,” says Fanny Gauthier, Director of the Alliance Française.

Among a host of events, there will be 3 highlights of La Francophonie 2024: the screening of 8 films from different countries from the 8 to the 18 of March, The Mixx Concert on the 15 of March, and the Buffet de La Francophonie:

From March 8 to 18, audiences will have the opportunity to discover a varied selection of films from different countries, all with English subtitles. There’s something for all tastes and ages: family films, dramas, romances, documentaries and even science fiction. Screening will take place at the Alliance Française, and admission is completely free.

A week later, on Saturday 15 March, again at the Alliance Française, a concert will bring together musicians from Burkina Faso, France and Zimbabwe for a unique and original musical experience. Whether you’re a fan of energetic marimba beats, rhumba grooves or smooth western African pace… this event promises to immerse you in the rich diversity of Francophone music.

To round off the week will be the Francophonie Buffet on March 23, hosted again at Alliance Française de Harare.
