2016 proved to be a turning year for Zim Hip Hop. From breakout acts like Takura and Sharky to the much-wanted airtime on Africa’s music television channels. One such artists who benefitted from the introduction of Trace Africa is newcomer Dexter Baysiq. He may not have muc airplay on local radio stations but this young gun proved that he could rumble with big timers by getting slots on the continental television stations which are Maprat and a feature on Brythreesixty’s Checkmate. His video for Make Mama Proud also got a couple of spins on Channel O.
He has decided to go big on his first drop this year collaborating with two of the finest lyricists in Zimbabwe currently. Today Dexter will drop his new banger No No No live on The Fixx a Hip Hop radio show on ZiFM Stereo, hosted by Lady K and PD The Ghost between 9pm and 12am.
In this track two rappers who were the favourites for the Album of the Year at the 2016 Zim Hip Hop Awards, Sharky and Asaph, go head to head for the first time ever, both dropping some sick verses that really cements them as the leaders of the school. This is a controversial collaboration as Burg Boy, Asaph claimed that he had been robbed when Sharky took the Album of the year gong. Was it a change of heart or the acknowledgement that Sharky deserved that award? We might never know!
Dexter holds his own on the second verse, pulling his weight and proving that he is the next big thing. With witty bars, cheeky delivery and a Kwesta feel to his spitting, this a rapper to look out for in 2017. Lex Alexander holds down the hook and he is one cat to look out for also. The track was produced by award winning DJ, Krimz Beatz. We can guarantee you that this will be one of the best tracks of 2017. Warning!
