Late Blooming is the latest release from the gifted songstress Eden Lang. A nostalgic tale that features beautiful melodies and showcases Eden’s vocal gift. The track is her first release of the year and it’s definitely a worthy one.
She says the song was inspired by the idea of finding love late in life, but wishing you could go back to being in a teen romance with someone. The lines of the song talk about a girl that started dating late and still experienced heartbreak, but she finds someone who brings her to that feeling of a younger age.
Never had a crush as a little girl
Thought that boys were stupid
Only started dating at 24
Skipped the teenage romance
But even though I waited
It was all in vain
Yeah you know how the story ends
They all broke my heart
I thought that love was pain
But you, make me wanna go back
Back to school playgrounds
Kiss you on lines of a merry-go-round
Lang finds love as a huge inspiration of her music, in the past she used to write alot about heartbreak because it came particularly easy for her to write about love and love lost.
Although having always appreciated all genres of music she has found that indie-pop is definitely her niche. The melting pot of different sounds that make up the genre is similar to her as she’s able to express myself in many different styles.
Lang believes the genre can find room for itself within the Zimbabwean music space, and hopes that it’ll one day have the appreciation it deserves.
I think there is definitely a space for indie-pop in Zimbabwe because there is a huge gap in the market for that type of music. Before indie-pop was not a mainstream genre until the recent resurgence with artists like Clairo, Steve Lacy and Domnick Fike. Nevertheless, indie-pop has always been my main obsession, and I’m glad to one day stand and say I was into indie-pop before it was cool, when the rest of Zimbabwe catches the coming wave.
