Destruction Boyz Owe Us December & Heat Rub

After spending numerous hours being subjected to a forced squat regiment all in the name of vosho, it has come to my attention that the summer hit track that may or may not have sent a lot of people into the ER was stolen. Obviously, this hit track is Omunye and the accused are the now famous Destruction Boyz.

I quickly cast away those rumours when I was told until I actually listen to the track they are accused of ripping off from and I must say. It sounds like the same damn thing! Destruction Boyz through their manager DJ Tira has rebutted all accusations, claiming that they bought the track from Cape Town-based Dj Mphyd. In extension, the Dj Mphyd claims that he did not bite from any beat.

First of all, Destruction Boyz did not make that beat? That’s a scam mos! Here we were praising them and pushing their brand until videos of Europeans dancing to the song flooded social media. All that time we were giving them props for being the cream of 2017, these okes had pulled a Dj Khaled on us. Shame on you bros!

Onto the beat that they supposedly bit, it was made by DJ LAG and he titled it Trip to New York. The progression is indeed similar to that of Omunye and it was uploaded to YouTube way before Omunye was uploaded. DJ LAG’s management engaged song analysis expert and trained musician Sakhile Moleshe of Imilozi Music, whose 31 paged reports ends with the below quote.

“I have found that, as a result of the tempo, key signature, instrumentation and lead melodies being identical in both musical works, Omunye was indeed copied from Trip to New York.”

I am not particularly familiar with the court proceedings of such a case but if it turns out that Destruction Boyz really ripped this track off, I want my shoes and my December back. Plus a tub of heat rub for good measure!

Listen to DJ LAG’s Trip To New York below and tell us what you think!
