Daughters of Legends: Short documentary on music icons Oliver Mtukudzi & Lucky Dube selected for the Power24 International Film Festival

Daughters of Legends, a short documentary by Nico Abote on the legacy of documenting the legacy of music icons Oliver Mtukudzi and Lucky Dube, has made the official selection for the Power24 International Film Festival.

The 6 minute long self narrated film explores the legacy of the late musicians through the eyes of their daughters, Selmor Mtukudzi and Nkulee Dube.

The documentary was filmed during the Harare International Festival of Arts in 2013 and completed in 2023. It is filmmaker, Nico Abote’s first ever selection at a film festival.

Nico Abote over 20 years of experience in TV, film, journalism, and digital media. He specializes in broadcast production, documentary filmmaking, and strategic content development. Abote’s work spans Africa, Canada, and the USA.

Hosted in Durban, South Africa, the Power24 International Film Festival highlights 24 powerful films from around the world. These films comes from previously marginalized sectors like women, people with disabilities, Rural films, emerging filmmakers, historic and religious films, LGBTQIA films and other voiceless stories and sectors.
