#DailyDevotion: Yet I Hold This Against You

When one loses sight of their first love and the intimacy of their relationship, they open themselves up to counterfeit experiences in which they would even fail to notice the difference.

I remember a time in Zimbabwe when there was a lot of counterfeit US Dollar notes and South African rands in circulation. Consequently, a lot of people were defrauded. The reason for this was that as Zimbabweans, we had no relationship with this foreign currency and therefore could not tell the difference between the real and the fake.

We find how that Jacob labored seven years for Rachel, of whom the Bible professes that he loved. But seven years after he began to labor, his eyes were now fixated on what his first love could give him, rather than his relationship with the first love. The Bible declares in Genesis 29:21,

“And Jacob said unto Laban, Give me my wife, for my days are fulfilled, that I may go in unto her.”

In your relationship with God, if a “miracle” comes through the channel of a Leah will you know it is not from Rachel? And so I ask how many started their laboring in the things of God out of the pureness of heart for their first love and are now more concerned about the things of God, yet forsaking the God of things?
