The frustration of the believer that comes with a purely academic mindset before God, is that he believes His Salvation is in the knowledge of the scriptures alone.
There is nothing powerful about “the Word”, nor is there anything powerful about “the cross.” Long pause…
The scriptures, much like the cross, are simply empowered by the person behind them. Jesus himself says in the above passage that eternal life is not in the scriptures, it is in the one that testifies of. The Bible speaks of the two thieves that were hung on crossed next to Jesus, yet that did not buy our Salvation; so it is not the cross but the person of the cross.
My prayer for you this morning is that you would come into a deeper and more intimate relationship with the person of the Word!
