The Bible declares in Matthew 7:16,
“Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns or figs of thistles?”
The fruit of the Spirit is the container within which the gifts of the Spirit are poured. I am not saying if you do not have the fruit of the spirit you are not going to be able to prophesy.
The Bible says you can’t put new wine(which speaks of the Spirit) into the old wineskin. It is not that you physically are incapable of doing so, but lest the wineskin burst forth, it goes on to say. The potency of spiritual gifts requires the toughening of the outer skin through humility and godly attributes. A gift has the power to lift a man up, but the only character has the ability to keep him there.
