The trailblazing singer seems to have picked up a habit of breaking barriers. Toya Delazy’s rise in the industry was a bit controversial for the conservative critics as they cried for over her sexuality. Her royal background as did not do her justice to her too. However, her rise has been undeniably interesting to follow and her latest deal proves all of this.
Toya has been selected as the new voice of a fourth Powerpuff Girls character who also happens to be black. This a historic moment as this is the first black character on the cartoon. In a move that may be seen as trying to cement their place in African households, Cartoon Network has afforded Toya a chance to live her dream of voicing a cartoon character. In a press statement issued by Cartoon Network a month ago, Toya said,
“I have always dreamed of being the voice of a cartoon character. Never did I think I would be recording a voice for Cartoon Network’s The Powerpuff Girls though!”
Apart from voicing the character, Toya lent her creative prowess in the making of the new Powerpuff them song. She did a localised version of the track which had been recorded by US indie band, Tacocat.
The new episodes are part of a 5-episode story, The Powerpuff Girls: Power of Four. They will start airing from the 17th of September. Now that our favourite rockstar is part of it, we bet that a lot of us will be glued to the screens when the show drops.
