Rudo Chasi is an afro-jazz musician with a passion for telling stories. Her vocal prowess knows no bounds, and her music is a blend of African and western musical influences.
She cites Shirley Caesar, CeCe Winans, Whitney Houston, Juanita Bynum, Chiwoniso Maraire, Brenda Fassie, Thomas Mapfumo and Oliver Mtukudzi as some of her key influences.
Rudo writes simple songs about complex things: life, family, love, home, and gender issues. She writes from a perspective of distances, of interludes between lovers and lives. She started performing publicly at the Sister’s Open Mic Platform, a Pamberi Trust project in 2012 at the Book Cafe and also at the Zimbabwe German Society Acoustic Night.
During the same year, she also participated through music in a theatre play in conjunction with various NGOs campaigning against gender-based violence.
In 2014, Rudo released her debut album titled “African Sun”. Clive “Mono” Mukundu and JT. Musarara produced the album.
