Why Every Dreamer Should Shelf Tafadzwa Mazibuko’s The Dream That Was Worth Fighting For!

EVERYONE dreams. Sometimes our dreams are silly and far-fetched, other times they’re fearful or disturbing. Maybe you dream the same dream over and over again.

Dreaming is important. We need to dream. Dreams come from our subconscious minds and we can learn a lot about ourselves by analysing them. They force us to see things that we do not want to deal with and they can help us remember something we couldn’t remember when awake. There is meaning to every dream, and the most preposterous have meaning.

Some famous writers are inspired by dreams. Fortunately, our own Zimbabwean sister Tafadzwa Mazibuko is one of them and in her latest book The Dream That Was worth Fighting For! she takes us through a wonderfully honest account of her roller-coaster from being a sick, sympathetic girl to becoming a respected, self-accomplished inspirational speaker, accountant and author.

In her narrative/testimony, Tafadzwa is brutally honest and it is refreshing. The book is written in an easy conversational style which engages the reader. The setting shifts from Zimbabwe to South Africa, which is where she resides now.

It is a short but charming true-life tale of a young woman, Tafadzwa, also known as Fadzie, who struggled spiritually and physically in the process of getting where she is now.

She possesses a remarkable amount of intelligence, but every time she seems to unlock another crucial door to her ‘dream’ she suffers disturbing seizures.

However, what keeps her going is her unfailing belief and trust in God. She’s not just a dreamer, she’s a prayer warrior as well, and that, added to her determination, yielded her her beautiful dream – of becoming an accountant, a wife, a mother and a living testimony of God’s mighty working power that turn any tables for the better. Some people may call her series of stories coincidences but we much prefer to call them God instances.

Fear can consume us and take over. When fear threatens our lives, we need to lift our eyes to God and focus on Him. He is bigger than any fear we can ever face. There are times when we are called to fight against the forces of darkness. We are never to do this alone but in tandem with God. There are times in our lives when we really can see God stepping in and working for our good. Sometimes we realize it, other times we don’t. That is what Tafadzwa is saying.

Stories are an evangelistic tool and The Dream That Was Worth Fighting For! is Tafadzwa’s way of preaching to people. She reminds us that we need to tell the stories of the Bible in our own words, adapting to the needs of the audience to whom we are talking. We need to draw the listeners or readers in and awaken something inside that enables them to go off and explore this wonderful God for themselves.

It is a really wonderful book that needs to be on the bookshelf of every Christian. It is a book to return to again and again… to be read for encouragement whenever life knocks you down and you begin to doubt. We are looking forward to more by Tafadzwa.
