Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa yesterday blamed country detractors for the current price hikes at the ZANU PF’s seventh National Youth League Conference in Harare.
Prices of basic goods have been increasing by at least 30% in the past month, with the local Zimbabwean currency losing value to the United States Dollar both at the parallel market and RBZ auction system.
The President said, “We are aware that some of our people are working with detractors to bring about regime change through the manipulation of our exchange rate and unjustified price hikes.”
“My Government is seized with this matter and perpetrators will soon be brought to book.”
Zimbabwe’s leader also spoke of how the ruling party has been empowering youths at the conference which ran under the theme ‘Vision 2030: Revitalise, Empower, Involve the Youth’.
“To date, five hundred hectares of land has been set aside in every province for Agricultural Integrated Youth Skills Development Centres. These Centres will train the youth on various aspects of the agriculture sector,” he said.
“The mining sector remains open for the participation of youths. Presently, a considerable number of our youth are actively mining and contributing to our national mining sector targets.”
The President also challenges youths to start more businesses and create wealth, especially in the construction, ICT, tourism and the financial service sectors.
Zimbabwe has been facing the challenge of a high unemployment rate.
President Mnangagwa said, “The days for you to line up and seek for jobs are fading. You must leverage on our country endowments, to create decent job opportunities towards the growth of local economies and rural industries in our provinces, districts, wards and villages.”
