President Emmerson Mnangagwa has launched a 50 days count down towards the 2022 Population and Housing census scheduled for 21-30 April this year.

Speaking during the launch, the Zimbabwean leader said the 2022 census will provide comprehensive information on levels of education, literacy, and fields of specialization of the country’s population.

“I am pleased to advise that for the first time in the history of census in Zimbabwe, the 2022 Census will emphasize housing characteristics and living conditions,” he said.

“Focus will be on such aspects as access to electricity, types of dwelling units and sources of drinking water amongst others.”

The latest census will also interrogate reasons for dropping out of school according to the Zimbabwean President.

“This will assist my Government to come up with interventions that reduce school drop-out rates,” he said.

“More data will be collected that enable monitoring of the country’s progress towards achieving SDG4 of ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education.”

The census is expected to have a module to provide statistical data on people with functional difficulties.

Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (Zimstats) recruited a total of 40 500 enumerators from across the country’s 10 provinces to conduct the 2022 population and housing census.

The country’s population was estimated at 13.35 million in the 2013 census.
