The PPC Zimbabwe Music Awards (Zima) have unveiled their much-anticipated nominees’ list for the 2021 edition.
Organisers of the award show that seek to acknowledge and honour the country’s musical excellence and creativity said over 1 235 entries were received for this year’s awards, with the new category aligned to Covid-19 Awareness receiving a huge response.
Due to the ongoing lockdown, the ceremony – which was slated for February 6 – was postponed to February 20 with the hope that lockdown restrictions will have been eased.
The event will be hosted by television personality Arthur Evans.
Zima spokesperson, Benjamin Nyandoro, said;
“The nomination itself is a big win, given that we had more than 50 submissions in each category. It was a tough one, decisions had to be made. Congratulations to those who released material in a difficult year, those who submitted for Zima 2021 and those who have made it to the nomination.”
Despite its efforts to diversify and cautiously walking the line between mainstream, mushroomers and the underdogs, one wouldn’t help but wonder on the snubs of some big stars and even up-comers whose performances were pretty noticeable in 2020. The list of which may include Winky D (Njema), Jah Prayzah (Hokoyo), Van Choga, Uncle Epatan, Nyasha David, Enzo Ishall, Bryan K, King 98 among others. Or maybe they didn’t submit? Whatevs!
But hey, abort the yacht of apprehension and sail on the ship of surprises. Poptain and Nutty O are leading in nominations with four nominations each. And there is more…
