Rob Macson’s Big Goodbye

420 1
Over the years Rob Macson has grown into a leader in the Electronic Dance music scene in Zimbabwe, both as an artist and as a DJ. Regularly booked across the country and region, his live performances and style of music have seen him constantly pushing boundaries & blending genres in both his production and DJing styles.
In 2019 Rob released the “Free your MindEP which featured 8 full-length tracks and featured plenty of collaborations with Simba Tags, AurraThePoet and German songstress Bibiane Z. He referred to this as the beginning of a new era;
“it is my best work to date and I’m really excited for people to hear what we have managed to achieve over the past four months that it has been in the works” Rob said.
2020 it would seem, has a bigger new chapter for the bass-banger who’ll be moving to the Culture capital of the world, London, UK to pursue his dream in Music.
“as an electronic artist and DJ, there are so many more opportunities out there…I’ve been so fortunate that people have always shown so much love and support, but the industry and infrastructure (in Zimbabwe) just doesn’t support an electronic artist in fully fulfilling his dreams and goals, unfortunately,” he explained.
Rob referred to his decision to leave as an awakening;
“I’m reaching an age, but also a level of awareness, where I really want to pursue my dreams and try make the happen…I can’t sit around and wait for them to happen.”
Rob Macson in a bitter-sweet way follows the footsteps of many a Zimbabwean Creative like Shasha, Long John, Oskido, Nadia Nakai, Alfred Kainga and Q the Boss to mention a few; who have left the country to pursue their passions. Artists like them have enjoyed fair amounts of success and growth since.
Although one can dream of a Zimbabwe where creative dreams flourish and not expire, we hope Rob’s new chapter is nothing short of epic.
If you’d like to listen to Rob live before his great exodus he’ll play at the One More Time gig at the Horse Box Bar in Harare this weekend.
“this is a way for me to have one last set before I go, but also an opportunity to say goodbye to everyone who has always supported me and shown love. “Go out with a bang” so to say!”
In the meantime, we’ll be waiting eagerly for the exciting new stuff Rob will get up to in London.
